The Beta fits really well around the arms and torso, but the hemline is about an inch shorter than I'd like (a couple of my longer-length midlayers poke out below the hemline). Hence, why I also bought the Theta; however, it seems to be cut much more generously and therefore feels bulkier than the Theta. The Theta AR has a lower hemline, more spacious fit, the high collar design like the Beta AR, and high handwarmer pockets. While these jackets are similar, they have different uses in mind. The Theta AR will be more enjoyable for everyday use and skiing, while the Alpha SV is specifically made for high end climbing and mountaineering. I’m curious to see if the Beta AR with the “pro” vs “pro shell” stitching will be better as advertised with the new technology- if you are ever questioning the quality of an Arc product, specifically the Theta/Beta, I can tell you that I am beyond impressed with what my jacket has gone through to keep me dry, warm, and protected from When I hold the old Theta AR next to the new Theta SV, I really can't see much difference between the two—except I still like the color of the Theta AR best of all.
